Cabrini College’s undergraduate and graduate teacher education programs were honored as a “Top College in Pennsylvania: Shaping the Next Generation” by The College Database, a non‑profit that provides free information about education options both nationally and locally to students and parents.
Cabrini ranked second of all postsecondary institutions in the Commonwealth in the number of education graduates in the 2012 academic year.
“Many colleges and universities have tremendous teacher education programs,” said Doug Jones, founder of The College Database.
“But which ones are producing the most young educators today? We wanted to identify the colleges making the largest impact on our students.”
Beverly Bryde, Ed.D., dean for education at Cabrini College, was pleased with the recognition. “It is great to be formally recognized for what our education programs have been accomplishing for quite a while,” Bryde said.
“School administrators have been saying for years that Cabrini College produces great teachers. That’s why they recruit Cabrini-trained teachers and that’s why our teachers get hired.”
According to The College Database website, “Each program [which made the Top College list] has top‑notch instructors, and students are encouraged to take part in research projects, internships, and other hands‑on learning experiences. These schools also have a strong focus on academic integrity, changing needs in education, and offering specializations so that students can discover whatever subset of education that they love the most.”
The College Database analyzed datasets from multiple government and commercial sources including the National Center for Education Statistics’ (NCED) Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and The Carnegie Classification.
To be considered a top college shaping the next generation, institutions needed to be a fully accredited, four-year public or private, not-for-profit colleges or universities with a minimum of 10 graduates from education or teaching programs in 2012.
