2015 Cabrini Classic Honoree: John D. Schanz
Since 2007, Cabrini College has honored outstanding individuals at the Cabrini Classic who have demonstrated success in their professional lives, are advocates in the community, and have a strong commitment to higher education.
John D. Schanz, a Cabrini Trustee, is executive vice president and chief network officer for Comcast Cable.
In this role, he oversees Comcast’s national engineering for network and systems operations for the company’s industry-leading cable video, high-speed Internet, and voice services.
Prior to joining Comcast, Schanz served as executive vice president of Network and Data Center Operations for America Online (AOL).
He previously held senior management, operations, and engineering positions with technology and communications companies, including Sprint, GE Information Services, and Transaction Network Services.
At Cabrini, Schanz and wife Elizabeth generously funded a student’s semester abroad, and helped raise more than $20,000 for the College during their hike for charity in February 2014 when they climbed Mount Kilimanjaro.
Schanz holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Manhattan College of Engineering in Riverdale, N.Y. He also completed General Electric’s Information Systems Management Program.
He is an active member of the Philadelphia community and spends much of his time focusing on nonprofit educational endeavors.
He helped to foster Comcast’s initial participation with FIRST®, which inspires young people’s interest and participation in science and technology.
Schanz also serves as a trustee for Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School and the Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute.
John’s dedication to Cabrini and to education as a whole in the Delaware Valley makes him a worthy honoree for this year’s Classic. The Cabrini College community is proud to recognize his leadership and dedication to the mission of Cabrini College.
2014: The Haverford Trust Company and its founder, George W. Connell
The Haverford Trust Company and George Connell for many years served as a lead sponsor of the Cabrini Classic.
Connell founded The Haverford Trust Company in 1979 as Rittenhouse Financial Services, an investment advisory firm focused on high-quality, dividend-paying equity securities.
2013: Thomas P. Nerney ’77
Tom is chairman, president, and CEO of USLI (United States Liability Insurance Group).
He serves Cabrini College as Chair of the Board of Trustees.
2012: Caswell “Cas” F. Holloway, III P’05
Cas is president of C.F. Holloway, III & Company, and a dedicated supporter of Cabrini.
He served on the Board of Trustees for three consecutive terms.
2011: Edith Robb Dixon HON’80, P’85
Mrs. Dixon has supported the College for many years, and served as Chair of the College’s Board of Trustees.
She was named trustee emerita in 1999.
2010: Sr. Mary Louise Sullivan, MSC, Ph.D. ’63
After graduating from Cabrini in 1963, Sister Mary Louise served the College for many years.
She was associate dean, academic dean, faculty member, and Cabrini’s fourth president.
2009: Margaret Hamilton Duprey ’73, HON’08
Eight years after graduating from Cabrini, Margaret joined the Board of Trustees.
She served as Chair from 2000 to 2007 and was named trustee emerita in 2008.
For 11 years, Robert was President and CEO of the Main Line Chamber of Commerce, based in Wayne, Pa.
2007: Robert L. D’Anjolell Sr. HON’08
Bob is president of DANJOLELL Memorial Homes, and he was a member of the College’s Board of Trustees for more than 25 years.
He served as Chair from 1995 to 1998 and was named trustee emeritus in 2008.
