The Master of Education (M.Ed.) and teacher certifications are stand-alone programs, but students with Pre‑kindergarten–Grade 4 Certification (formerly Elementary) or Secondary-Education Certification need only two and four more courses, respectively, to complete the M.Ed. degree.
Master’s with Pre-kindergarten-through-Grade 4 Education
Master’s with Reading Specialist
Master’s with Secondary Education Subject areas include English, Social Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Communication
Master’s with Special Education
Students have six years in which to complete the M.Ed. program before being required to reapply to the program.
Students are often interested in completing certification as soon as possible, and then plan on completing the master’s degree afterwards. If that is the student’s goal, advisors work with them to accomplish that result.
Teacher certification without completion of an M.Ed. is also available.
Completion of a graduate application and payment of the $50 non-refundable application fee.
An undergraduate degree (bachelor's) from a regularly accredited college or university, in any major, with an overall cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better. Official (institution-sealed envelope) transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate college history. Note: Students who do not meet the GPA requirement or who have been out of college for an extended period of time may be considered for provisional acceptance and take nine (9) graduate credits. If their Cabrini GPA for the nine graduate credits, which count toward their program, is 3.0 or better, they then request to change to full graduate status.
