RADNOR, Pa. (Nov. 11, 2013) — Maria Vizcarrondo has been named executive director of the Nerney Leadership Institute at Cabrini College. She began her position Nov. 11.
Established in spring 2013, the Institute offers students curricular and co-curricular opportunities in leadership development, from non-credit certificates to a minor and a master’s degree.
Vizcarrondo’s experience spans the corporate, non-profit and government sectors. Most recently, she served as president/chief executive officer of Health-e-CITi-NJ, a federally funded health-information exchange for Northern New Jersey.
She also served in executive roles in the Newark Health Department, United Way of Essex and West Hudson, and the Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development.
As executive director of the Nerney Leadership Institute, Vizcarrondo will form an Advisory Council of corporate, non-profit and academic leaders that will assist her in developing an Executive-in-Residence program and an internship program at the College. She also will collaborate with faculty and staff to develop leadership education at Cabrini.
“Maria brings to the campus strong energy, a passion for leadership development in young people, and a strong organizational approach that will provide the inspiration for immediate growth of the Nerney Leadership Institute,” said Anne Skleder, Ph.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs, who oversees the Institute.
Vizcarrondo earned a bachelor of arts in political science from Kean College and a master of science in public policy and administration from Columbia University. She completed postgraduate work in urban policy at Rutgers University.
The Nerney Leadership Institute at Cabrini College was established through the generosity of Thomas P. Nerney, a 1977 alumnus and chair of the Board of Trustees, and chairman, president, and chief executive officer of United States Liability Insurance Group (USLI) in Wayne, Pa.
