RADNOR, Pa. (May 8, 2014) — After first round victories, the Cabrini College men's and women's lacrosse teams advance in NCAA Tournaments.
The Cabrini men's lacrosse team improved to 8-2 in NCAA Tournament first round games with a 9-8 victory over No. 17 University of Mary Washington at Edith Robb Dixon Field. With the victory, the Cavaliers improved to 17-1, tied with the 2008 and 2012 teams for most wins in program history.
The victory also marked the 200th career win for Head Coach Steve Colfer. Entering the 2014 season, only 20 coaches all-time had reached the 200 win plateau.
The Cabrini women's lacrosse team ran out to an 8-0 lead before topping Arcadia University in the NCAA Tournament first round game. Before the victory, it had been 12 season since the Cabrini women's lacrosse team had the feeling of winning an NCAA Tournament game.
With the win, the Blue and White improve to 14-5 on the season, the team's most wins in a season since 2007. Cabrini's reward for its first round victory is a trip to No. 6 Gettysburg for Saturday's second round. The Bullets earned a bye into the second round after a 16-2 campaign and Centennial Conference title. The clubs met in the opening round of the 2012 tournament, with Gettysburg advancing after a 22-7 win.
