Secondary Education Concentration for Communication Majors
Students can major in Communication and combine the degree with a Secondary Education Certification in Communication.
Requirements for a Major in Communication and Secondary Education Certification in Communication:

- COM/ENG 489 Communication/English Curriculum and Methods
- Communication Electives (6 credits)
- ENG 275 Drama
- ENG 280 Acting
- ENG 307 Literature for Young Adults
- ENG 315 Shakespeare
- ENG 340 Public Speaking
- ENG 280 Acting
- One American Literature Course (351 or 352 or 353)
- ENG 379 Introduction to the Study of Language
Total Credits for Major/Concentration: 44
Students should realize that only the largest school systems support high school communication departments or magnet schools.
A communication certification does not qualify a student for an English teaching position.
Students are encouraged to select writing courses from the journalism and writing option.
